How It Works
For ISEP Exchange programs, the number of placements available for incoming applicants is based on the number of students from that institution going out on ISEP Exchange programs. Chance of placement is reviewed each year, and set based on expected outbound exchange activity and historical inbound demand.
The majority of ISEP exchange sites will fill completely during our priority placement round. Sites still open to receiving late exchange applicants will be posted online after priority placements are released. After the priority placement round, space available at remaining sites may change frequently.
How to Determine Chances of Placement
- The chance of placement is listed for every ISEP university on the program page for that location. To locate a program’s chance of placement, simply select the semester you’re interested in and the chance of placement will be listed under the first bullet point.
- On the Program Finder, you can locate every program’s chance of placement by selecting the detail view. You can filter your search in the Program Finder by chance of placement and other criteria suited to your needs under “More Filters”.
Chances of Placement Guide
While searching for ISEP Exchange sites, it is important to check each program’s chances of placement. The Chance of Placement for Exchange programs ranges from “Excellent” to “Most Competitive.” ISEP cannot guarantee placement at one specific institution on an Exchange program. Chance of placement for Direct programs is always “Guaranteed” as we are able to guarantee your placement as long as you meet the minimum academic and program-specific requirements.

| Guaranteed | This site can accept all students that apply and meet the minimum eligibility requirements. All ISEP Direct programs offer guaranteed placement for students who meet the eligibility requirements. |
| Excellent | This site usually has more spots available than the number of applicants applying. Some of these sites might be available after the priority deadline. |
| Good | This site can accommodate most of the applicants requesting it. ISEP Exchange applicants should list one to two sites with a ‘good’ or ‘excellent’ chance of placement on their program list. Some of these sites might be available after the priority deadline. |
| Fair | This site can usually accommodate about half of the applicants requesting it. ISEP recommends that students listing “Fair” chance of placement sites on their application list at least three sites on their application, with one to two sites that have a ‘good’ or ‘excellent’ chance of placement. |
| Limited | This site usually cannot accommodate all the applicants that request it. Many applicants will be placed at an alternative choice or asked to consider other options. If applying to a site with a ‘limited’ chance of placement, ISEP suggests that students list a minimum of 3-5 sites, with one to two sites that have a ‘good’ or ‘excellent’ chance of placement. |
| Most Competitive | This site is one of the most requested for ISEP Exchange and only has a few spots for applicants. Student may apply to only one site marked most competitive, and it must be listed as the first choice on their application. Students should consider adding additional options with better chances of placement to make their application more flexible. |

Our goal is to place you at one of your requested sites. For this reason, it is essential that you review your preferred site’s academic and language proficiency requirements. We review all applications to ensure students meet the minimum requirements. If you do not meet a site’s requirements, you will not receive a placement for that program.
To increase your chances of receiving an ISEP Exchange Placement, be sure to include programs with a “good” or “excellent” chance of placement.
