Sarah Barr

Sarah Barr is Director of Global Engagement at Nebraska Wesleyan University (NWU) in Lincoln, Nebraska, and an alumna of both NWU and ISEP. Her ISEP exchange year at the Universitaet Trier in Germany shaped her life. She taught at The American University in Cairo after earning her Masters of Fine Arts in Literary Translation and her Masters of Arts in German. She has participated in site visits to Chile, Argentina, Estonia, England, Northern Ireland, and Scotland. She has traveled throughout Europe and Egypt, as well as to Tunisia, Lebanon, Canada and Mexico. Sarah speaks German, Japanese, Spanish and Arabic—to varying degrees. Since beginning her career in education abroad in 2007, Sarah has served as a selection panelist for the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship, the Critical Language Scholarship, and the Fulbright Scholarship. Sarah has volunteered with NAFSA at the national, regional and state levels. During her six years at NWU, the number of Gilman Scholarship winners more than doubled. Throughout her career, Sarah has leveraged the energy of international students and study abroad returnees to increase the capacity of the international education offices where she’s worked while providing important experiential learning and professional skill development to her students.
