Members of the ISEP Board of Directors elected three distinguished leaders to join the ISEP Board for a 3-year term, effective July 1, 2022:
Gretchen Dobson, EdD
Gretchen Dobson is a global engagement strategist, author and academic with 29 years’ experience working across six continents. In 2022, Gretchen joined Tetra Tech International Development, as Associate Director, Scholarships focusing on advancing professional development and lifelong learning initiatives for clients and partners across Indo-Pacific and Southeast Asia. In addition, she continues to lead her established independent international alumni relations consultancy which advises CEOs, governing boards, embassies, and policymakers on best practices to identify, track, engage, and manage relationships with their global stakeholders and brand ambassadors. She joined the Board in 2022.
Hernán Fratto
As a news anchor for Telemundo Chicago, Hernán expertly showcases journalistic content for the target audience. An effective communicator, he interacts well with people from a wide range of social and cultural backgrounds. Mr. Fratto received his degree in broadcast journalism from Universidad del Salvador (Argentina), and studied abroad on an ISEP Exchange program at Northwestern State University of Louisiana. He joined the ISEP Board 2022.
Bernard J. Milano, CPA
Bernard J. Milano joined the ISEP Board in 2022. He is the former president of the KPMG Foundation and retired founding president of The PhD Project, a national program that has increased minority representation on business school faculty by over 400%. Mr. Milano recently served on the Society of Human Resource Management Blue Ribbon Commission on Racial Equity, is Secretary/Treasurer of the business school honor society Beta Gamma Sigma and Vice President of the Newark Episcopal Diocese Standing Committee.
In addition, the Board also elected a new Executive Committee, who will serve a two-year term until June 30, 2024:
Chair Bill Clabby, MA
A Returned U.S. Peace Corps Volunteer and linguist, Bill Clabby has 40 years experience living, learning and teaching abroad, and building alliances for universities and global organizations. He most recently served as Deputy Chief Global Affairs Officer at the University of California, Irvine and as Associate Vice President for Global Initiatives at St. Edward’s University. He joined the ISEP Board of Directors in 2014.
Vice Chair Robert Carolin, MA
Robert Carolin is the Assistant Vice President for Global Programs and Services at California State University, San Marcos, overseeing all aspects of international engagement for the university including study abroad, exchange, international degree-seeking admissions and advising and Intensive English Program. He previously worked at two other ISEP institutions in California, with the U.S. Embassy in Uruguay as well as at ISEP’s Global Office. In addition, Mr. Carolin has spent several years in Japan. He received his Master’s in International Education from the School for International Training and is fluent in Spanish. A strong advocate for an immersive international experience for faculty, students, and staff, he served two terms on ISEP’s Council of Advisors prior to joining the Board in 2020.
Past Chair Madeleine F. Green, PhD
Dr. Madeleine F. Green is a Senior Fellow at the International Association of Universities. Her work experience encompasses higher education policy and practice, focusing primarily on internationalization, institutional management and leadership, and teaching and learning. She is widely published on these topics. Green received the 2010 Charles Klasek Award from the Association of International Education Administrators for outstanding service to the field of international education. From 1991 to 2010, she served as Vice President for International Initiatives at the American Council on Education. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Harvard University and a doctorate degree from Columbia University, both in French literature. She has been an ISEP board member since 2015.
Secretary Terhi Mölsä, MSocSc
With nearly 30 years of professional experience in higher education internationalization, Terhi Mölsä served in various capacities at the University of Tampere and Finnish Ministry of Education agencies prior to joining Fulbright Finland where she became the Executive Director in 2002 and the CEO of the new Fulbright Finland Foundation in 2016. A consultant, trainer, and curriculum developer on strategic leadership and management in international education, Mölsä serves on boards and leadership positions both in Finland and internationally. An ISEP alumna (Finland to United States), she joined the ISEP Board in 2018. Mölsä is a graduate of the University of Tampere (M.Soc.Sc. and B.A.)
Treasurer Peter L. Gess, PhD
Dr. Peter L. Gess is the Associate Provost for Engaged Learning and Director of International Programs at Hendrix College, United States at Hendrix College, located in the United States. He has been a board member since 2015. Gess leads Hendrix College’s distinctive Odyssey engaged learning program and other curricular and co-curricular high-impact practices. He also oversees study abroad programs, international student and scholar services, ESOL programs, and special international projects such as the Rwanda Presidential Scholars Program and the International Student Summer Institute. Gess is also an associate professor of politics and environmental studies and teaches courses in public administration and policy.
ISEP’s international Board of Directors is comprised of individuals from higher education, non-profits, foundations and the private sector, all of whom have personal interest in international student mobility for academic and cross-cultural learning. Their commitment to ISEP’s mission and their belief in our core values are unparalleled. Board members reflect the global diversity of the ISEP Community, having studied, lived or worked in Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, and North and South America.
